Are a credit report and a credit score the same thing?

Credit reports and credit scores are not the same thing. Credit reports are a summary of how you have handled credit accounts, including the types of accounts and payment history, as well as certain other information that's reported to credit bureaus by lenders and creditors.

Credit scores are three-digit numbers generally ranging from 300 to 850. They are designed to represent your credit risk, or the likelihood you will pay your bills on time. Credit scores are calculated using information from credit reports, such as payment history; the amount of debt owed; and the credit history length. There are many different credit scores and credit scoring models, or ways of calculating them.
