Equifax Tools to Empower Consumers on Their Financial Wellness Journeys

March 16, 2026

MARCH IS NATIONAL CREDIT EDUCATION MONTH AND EQUIFAX WANTS TO HELP CONSUMERS better understand their credit reports and scores in an effort to aid in improving their financial well-being. Whether consumers have a goal of owning a home, buying a car, or needing a personal loan, their credit histories help determine the interest rates they are offered.

The Equifax eBook - Navigating Your Credit Journey - answers common questions consumers have about credit reporting and credit scores, like:

  • What is a credit score? - A credit score is a three-digit number, typically between 300 and 850, designed to represent a consumer’s credit risk, or the likelihood they will pay their bills on time.

  • How credit scores are calculated - Payment history, the number and type of credit accounts, a consumer’s used vs. available credit and the length of their credit history are factors frequently used to calculate credit scores.

  • What does and does not impact credit scores - The types of credit activity that may be helping and/or hurting a consumer’s respective credit score are also important.
