Financial Education for UK Youth

Financial education for UK youth

Learning how to manage finances at a young age can help empower people with the knowledge and skills necessary to build a successful future. In the UK, 46% of adults do not feel confident managing their money¹.

Futures for All is the largest social mobility charity in the UK dedicated to leveling the playing field for state-educated students by providing life-changing opportunities they may otherwise struggle to access. Equifax UK has partnered with the organization to design and deliver an education outreach program for teenagers that focuses on financial wellness and inspires careers in business and technology.

The initiative pairs Equifax volunteers with local schools to share financial education and skills with teens to help them make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls. The interactive sessions guide them through the fundamentals of personal finance and credit, including:

  • Understanding credit scores and good credit
  • Budgeting and managing needs vs. wants
  • Understanding debt
  • Identifying scams and online security risks

The workshops, geared toward 14-19 year-olds, include a 2-day “Work Insights” presentation hosted at Equifax UK offices in Nottingham, Leeds and London. The interactive work-based projects embed core financial wellness strategies featured in the MyEquifax UK app, while immersing students in an office environment to offer a glimpse into how a global business operates. In 2024, the program launched virtually, serving many more young people throughout the UK with a focus on credit scores, data and AI.

“Our volunteers really enjoy educating these youth and understanding more about the challenges they face when it comes to being financially confident. We’re inspiring the next generation of our workforce by teaching them effective budgeting and credit management… something that will stick with them for life.”

- Sue Owen-Bailey, Equifax UK Head of ESG

The partnership has reached more than 3,000 young people in the UK to date, helping them chart a path toward a successful financial future. Learn more about how we’re driving greater financial inclusion.
