What should I do first when I’ve been impacted by a natural disaster or national emergency?

  • First, you have to make plans for your physical safety and immediate needs. Next, start evaluating your financial losses so you can submit insurance claims.
  • Contact your lenders (banks, credit card and utilities) if your payments will be late. Report any lost or stolen credit, debit or ATM cards.
  • If you're not staying at your home, forward your mail to a secure address or have it held at the post office.
