What have the Nationwide Credit Reporting Agencies (NCRAs) changed with respect to medical collection debt on consumer credit files?

Effective April 1, 2023, unpaid medical collection debt with an initial reported balance of under $500 will no longer be included on consumer credit reports. In addition, as of July 1, 2022, paid medical collection debt is no longer included on consumer credit reports. And the time period before unpaid medical collection debt appears on a consumer’s report increased from 6 months to one year. Each person’s credit profile is unique and individual credit score impacts will vary.
