Claimants are only eligible for the Single Person Discount (SPD) on Council Tax if they are living alone at an address The National Audit Office estimates that incorrect claims for SPD cost local government £2m per week. Now Equifax is empowering Local Authorities to tackle the problem.

Simply supply Equifax with your SPD claimant file and we’ll run all the necessary checks.

Once a year your council supplies us with all your claimant details. We augment your records with additional information such as electoral roll data, CCJs and up to three aliases. This data is then used to link to any other individuals who may be living at the same address, so that incorrect or fraudulent SPD claims can be exposed. All the information is processed in approximately 10 days. A colour coded risk assessment for each claimant allows you to decide upon the most appropriate action.
