NEIL MUNROE OF EQUIFAX RE-APPOINTED AS PRESIDENT OF ACCIS
London, 12th October 2011 - Neil Munroe, Director of External Affairs and Communications, Equifax, has been re-appointed as President of the Association of Consumer Credit Information Suppliers (ACCIS), the trade body that represents the interests of European consumer credit bureaux.. Neil was voted by the members to undertake a further two years as President, driving forward a number of initiatives that have been instigated in his first two-year tenure.
"I feel tremendously honoured to have been asked to continue my Presidency of ACCIS for a further two years", confirmed Neil Munroe. "In the last two years I have worked with the other members of the Executive Committee to widen the remit of the Association to reflect the changing market dynamics. In particular, we have taken on a greater lobbying role, with the aim of influencing legislation that will affect the credit granting sector right across Europe, as well as playing a significant role in the task force set up by the World Bank to create the very important new Global Credit Reporting Standards."
Established in 1990, ACCIS aims to bring together and represent the common interests of consumer credit reference agencies operating in Europe. It liaises with and lobbies European government agencies to help foster a legal climate in which its members can continue and develop their services as well as monitoring regulatory and other external affairs that could influence the credit reporting industry. During Neil Munroe’s first tenure as President of ACCIS, the membership has grown to 37 consumer credit information companies operating in 27 countries and it has established stronger links with other trade associations that have similar interests and goals throughout Europe.
"There is no doubt that members right across the European continent are experiencing a number of challenges as the global recession puts greater focus on the role of credit information. I, therefore, believe that there is an opportunity for ACCIS to help its members engender greater transparency and trust in credit information through financial education aimed at both the users of credit information, and the consumers affected by the decisions credit information supports."
"Over the next year we aim to continue to closely monitor current and future regulatory developments that are on the agenda of the European Commission" continued Neil Munroe. "In particular, the proposed new Data Protection Directive and the Directive on secured lending on residential property. We will also be looking to implement the initiatives that have arisen from our recent strategy review designed to further strengthen the benefits from being part of the ACCIS membership community"
